The Indian cricket team defeated Bangladesh in the opening Test of the two-match series in Chennai, capping a 92-year drought. India beat the longest version of the game by 280 runs in Chepauk, putting their record of wins over losses in the longest format of the game for the first time ever. Under CK Naidu’s direction, India played their first-ever Test match in 1932 but lost by 158 runs. India had never been able to achieve a greater number of victories than defeats since that particular encounter.
With 178 losses from a total of 581 matches in the longest version of the game, India’s victory over Bangladesh was its 179th in Test history.
It’s not just Team India that has more victories than defeats in Test matches. The remaining teams with a positive win-loss ratio are Pakistan, South Africa, England, Australia, and South Africa.
In Test Cricket, the team with more wins than losses is Australia, with 414 wins and 232 losses.
