PT Usha spoke out about the wrestler’s comments after Vinesh Phogat got an MLA ticket from Julana in the Haryana Assembly elections.
She accused her of not supporting the wrestler during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Phogat advanced to the final of the Olympics but was eliminated due to a 100 gram weight inaccuracy.
On the same day that Vinesh Phogat celebrated becoming the first woman to be elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Julana in Haryana,
President PT Usha of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) broke her silence regarding the star wrestler’s disqualification from the Paris Olympics and blamed the 30-year-old for not winning a medal.
In response to Phogat’s election victory, Usha revealed her grievances with the IOA from her campaign. The three-time gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games,
(CWG) claimed Usha had abandoned her and that the photo of her taken from her hospital bed had been taken without her knowledge.
Without holding back, Usha said that Phogat was the only one to blame for the situation and that it was the duty of her team to make sure she didn’t lose weight.

“She participated in athletics. She ought to possess the attributes of a sportsman; I’m not saying politicians areawful, but she participated in sports at the Olympics in Paris, and we all wanted medals from her.

For those who don’t know, Phogat made history when she became the first female wrestler from India to compete in the Olympics. She lost out on a medal on a day when she could have become the first female Olympic champion from India,
though, after failing her weigh-in the next morning.
Phogat filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after her disqualification; nevertheless, her plea for a joint silver medal was denied.
