Parents of Shapath Bharadwaj, a world-class shotgun shooter who is ranked 18th in the world in double trap shooting, announced on Thursday that their son has been granted a full scholarship to study for a master’s degree at the esteemed International Olympic Academy in Ancient Olympia, Greece.

Bharadwaj has been granted full scholarship to study “Olympic Studies, Organization, and Management of Olympic Events” at the International Olympic Academy in Ancient Olympia,

Greece, by the Olympic Solidarity of the International Olympic Committee. According to Bharadwaj’s mother, Swati R Sharma, “Shappath is the only Indian athlete chosen for this elite program, which comprises a cohort of only 30 students from across the globe.”

Notably, Bharadwaj received sincere congratulations from CEO Raghuram Iyer and President PT Usha of the Indian Olympic Association for being accepted into this esteemed program and for winning a full scholarship.

Olympic Solidarity offers complete scholarships to just ten of the chosen students; Bharadwaj is one of the ten, making him the only athlete from India to be granted this honor.

Olympic values and the nuances of sports administration, Bharadwaj stated.

The IOC carefully selected this master’s program to provide students with extensive understanding on the administration, organization, and culture of Olympic events. In cooperation with the University of Peloponnese in Greece, the course is being offered.

Bharadwaj was chosen for this program after a stringent screening procedure that involved Indian Olympic Association interviews. According to people with knowledge of the proceedings, Usha, the chairwoman, formally approved his nomination after reviewing a group of candidates.

With a distinguished career, Bharadwaj is an international shotgun athlete who has already won ten international medals while competing for India in world cups, international grand prix competitions, and world championships.

At the Shotgun Showdown Challenge 2024, which took place on September 8 at the Karni Singh Shooting Ranges in Delhi, he achieved a notable feat of matching the world record set by Nathan Hales of Britain in the trap event, scoring 49/50.

In the trap event, Bharadwaj won the title of national junior champion in 2021. At the age of 16, he attained his greatest world ranking of 18.
