Marseille missed a chance to draw level with leaders Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday after losing at Strasbourg, while Lyon won 2-1 at Toulouse due to a 95th-minute goal. Marseille had appeared resurgent this season under new Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi, but Diego Moreira’s goal for Strasbourg shortly before halftime condemned the visitors to their first loss of the season.
Strasbourg’s first win in 17 games against Marseille prevented their opponents from catching pacesetters PSG and Monaco on 16 points in Ligue 1.
Moreira scored his first senior professional goal in the 40th minute, capitalizing on a through play on the left and slotting a smooth finish beyond Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.
Marseille had chances to equalize, but Strasbourg goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic was equal to Mason Greenwood as the home team secured their second win of the season.
Earlier, Lyon earned their second win of the season thanks to a Rasmus Nicolaisen own goal and Malick Fofana’s stoppage-time winner, after Yann Gboho put Toulouse up early.
The hosts took the lead on 14 minutes when Gboho blasted into the top corner after Lyon threw the ball away in their own half.
Pierre Sage’s team leveled two minutes before halftime when Nicolaisen scored an own goal.
The points appeared to be shared until the ball broke to Fofana in the box, where his flashing effort passed the goalkeeper and crossed the line before defender Gabriel Suazo could block.
Reims defeated Angers 3-1 on the road to move into fourth place, two points behind surging Marseille in third.
Reims got off to a great start with goals from Keito Nakamura and Junya Ito in the first 25 minutes, and Marshall Munetsi sealed the win in the 79th minute.
Zinedine Ferhat scored a consolation for the hosts with six minutes remaining, but Angers remain in last place. They are the only side that has yet to win a league match this season.
Ibrahim Sissoko’s second-half brace secured a vital away point for promoted Saint-Etienne against Nantes.
Johann Lepenant put the home team ahead after 10 minutes, and Sorba Thomas doubled it four minutes later.
Sissoko cut the deficit in half in the 57th minute before converting a penalty 10 minutes later to tie the game.
