President of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) and Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, made the announcement that the BAI will award a total of INR 50 lakh to the medallists from the Paris Paralympics 2024 in recognition of their extraordinary efforts that made history.
India scored podium finishes in the women’s competitions for the first time at the recently finished Paralympic Games in Paris, and they won five medals in badminton—one gold, two silver, and two bronze—the most in the history of the event.
The para shuttlers who won medals at the Paris Paralympics last month would receive a total award of Rs 50 lakh, the Badminton Association of India announced on Tuesday. At the Paris Games, Indian para shuttlers took home five medals—two gold, two silver, and the same number of bronze.
Men’s singles SL3 gold medallist Suhas Yathiraj and women’s singles SU5 silver medallist Thulasimathi Murugesan will each receive Rs 10 lakh, while Nitesh Kumar, who won the coveted gold, would receive a bonus of Rs 15 lakh.
Manisha Ramadass (women’s singles SU5) and Nithya Sre Sivan (women’s singles SH6), who both won bronze medals, will split Rs 7.5 lakh.
In the men’s singles SL3 category, Nitesh Kumar won the desired gold, and in the men’s singles SL4 category, Suhas Yathiraj added a repeat victory in Paris to his silver haul from Tokyo.
Three Indian women shuttlers, Thulasimathi Murugesan, Manisha Ramadass, and Nithya Sre Sivan, created history by winning medals at the Paralympics. In the Women’s Singles SU5 competition, Thulasimathi won silver while Manisha took home the bronze. In the meantime, Nithya placed third in the SH6 division.
The first Indian women shuttlers to win medals at the Paralympics were Thulasimathi, Manisha, and Nithya.
The silver medallists, Suhas and Thulasimathi, will receive INR 10 lakh each, the bronze medallists, Manisha and Nithya, INR 7.5 lakh each, and the gold medal winner, Nitesh, INR 15 lakh.
