The ball was called dead after a miscommunication during a run-out attempt, resulting in heated debate between Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur and the umpires. Despite this, Kerr was removed after two balls.

Kerr attempted a second run, and India went for a run out, which might suggest neither stopped to consider it in play.
However, Clause 20.6 specifies that “once the ball is dead, no revoking of any decision can bring the ball back into play for that delivery.” The umpires deemed the ball dead, so there is no way back.
In the lead-up to the Women’s T20 World Cup, many people, including Indian players, discussed how this was the best-ever side to compete in the competition, with all bases covered. “We did not play our best cricket.” Going forward, we understand how vital each game is. We created opportunities but failed to take use of them. They undoubtedly played better cricket than us. We made certain blunders in fielding, which we will learn from in the future.
“We pursued 160-170 numerous times, and we expected that on the board.We know this bunch is capable of (performing) better; this wasn’t the start we were hoping for, but we have to move on from here,” said a frustrated Harmanpreet after the match.
