ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team led by junior Merit Namaste-Rose finished third in the No. 2 singles match on Saturday in the Interstate 8 Conference competition.
Namaste-Rose finished the season with an All-Conference Honorable Mention after going 2-1 over three games. Yaquelin Hernandez-Solis of Ottawa was defeated in three sets by Namaste-Rose, who prevailed 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 over the Pirate netter to start the competition
. Namaste-Rose recovered from a 0-6, 0-6 loss to Morris’ Meghan Bzdill in the semifinals with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Erin Murphy and Catherine Williams, seniors, were fourth at No. 1 doubles for the Lady Hubs, who finished the event with 12 points, fifth out of six teams. The event began with a win for Murphy and Williams, who defeated Rylee Harsted and Brooklyn Byone of Ottawa,Girls Tennis
ranked No. 4, 6-4, 6-1. The Rochelle netters lost 3-6, 1-6 to Morris’s Julia Borgstrom and Skyler Salens in the semifinals before losing 3-6, 2-6 to LaSalle-Peru’s Elena Leone and Cali Mickley to end the tournament.
At No. 2 doubles, seniors Lauren Dyer and Abby Metzger finished fourth. Starting the event off well, Dyer and Metzger defeated Jade Lee and Hannah of Kaneland 6-2, 6-1.

The girls narrowly lost 5-7, 4-6 by Taylor Zemanek and Peyton Wright of Sycamore in the third-place match.
At No. 3 doubles, seniors Sydney Carmichael and Natalie Wagner finished seventh.
The Rochelle pair lost their first-round match against Perla Gutierrez and Laurel Fisher of Ottawa.
In the fifth-place match, Carmichael and Wagner made a comeback triumph, teaming up to defeat Kaneland netters Ella Bischoff and Joee Goc 6-3, 6-1.
Senior Yaretzi Villalobos finished sixth at No. 1 singles, losing 1-6, 1-6 to Zulee Moreland of Ottawa and then 1-6, 1-6 against Regan O’Sullivan of Sycamore.
This Friday and Saturday are the Lady Hubs’ return to competition at the IHSA 1A Rochelle Sectional.
