The International Olympic Committee was forced to take action against India and halt financial support to the Indian National Olympic Committee indefinitely due to the ongoing internal conflict within the Indian Olympic Association involving President P.T.
The IOC stated that a suitable solution must be found “within IOA so that the IOA can operate properly in the interest of the athletes and the Olympic Movement in India” in a letter signed by James MacLeod, the NOC Relations and Olympic Solidarity Director.

Since January 2024, when IOA president P.T. Usha announced that Raghuram Iyer had been named CEO, the Executive Committee and Usha have been at odds over terms.

The letter asked “all concerned parties to act quickly and responsibly to remedy all outstanding governance issues in accordance with the IOA Constitution and the Olympic Charter,” noting that a comprehensive update on the situation in IOA had been presented at the IOC Executive Board meeting on October 8.
“We would appreciate it if you could keep us informed of any further, hopefully positive, developments and we are sincerely hoping the fact that an appropriate solution can urgently be found within the IOA so that the IOA can operate properly in the interest of the athletes and the Olympic Movement in India,” the letter from the IOC read.over
