Semi-Final
The Indian women’s cricket team is in a difficult situation following their loss to New Zealand in the Women’s T20 World Cup opener.
That defeat has dashed India’s aspirations of reaching the semi-finals. India competes in Group A alongside New Zealand, Pakistan, Asian champions Sri Lanka, and defending T20 World Cup champions Australia.
Each group’s top two teams will advance to the final four stages. With a massive loss against New Zealand, India’s run rate is a dismal -2.900.
In order to advance to the semi-finals, India must defeat Pakistan (on Sunday) and Sri Lanka (October 9) by a large margin, gaining four points while also improving their run rate.
India’s final group stage encounter is against six-time champions Australia, and defeating them would be a significant victory for the team. If India loses to Australia, they must pray that New Zealand loses at least two of its remaining matches. The equation will then come down to better run-rate.
