Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s heartbroken captain, said that her side did not play its best cricket during their 58-run loss to New Zealand in the Women’s T20 World Cup opener,

but she is certain that her players are capable of much greater performances. India were bowled out for 102 in 19 overs while chasing 161, with no player scoring 20 runs. “We did not play our best cricket.”

Going forward, we understand that every game is critical,” Kaur stated during the post-game presentation ceremony.

We pursued 160-170 several times and expected to see it on the board. While batting, India plays Pakistan on Sunday, and Kaur believes her team will triumph over its bitter enemies.

“We created opportunities but failed to take use of them. They undoubtedly played better cricket than us. Fielding, we made some mistakes, so that is a learning for us going forward,” she remarked, potentially referring to Renuka Thakur’s shoddy outfield.

Opposition skipper Sophie Devine, who was named ‘Player of the Match’ for her undefeated 57 off 36 balls, remarked her surprise at being able to dominate a side like India in such a manner, especially given New Zealand’s recent record of defeats leading up to the competition.
