The Indian bowling unit blasted in sync against a confused Pakistan, limiting the arch-rivals to a mere 105 for 8 in their second group league game of the Women’s T20 World Cup on Sunday.

After conceding 160 against New Zealand on a slow track under lights in their opener, the Indian bowlers read the pitch effectively and, more significantly, reduced the velocity of deliveries, making stroke-making even more difficult. Indian bowlers delivered 58 dot balls because of their superior control.

Renuka Singh Thakur (1/23) and Arundhati Reddy (3/19) bowled cleanly and accurately, while off-spinners Deepti Sharma (1/24) and Shreyanka Patil (2/12) provided enough grip and bounce to put Pakistani hitters on edge. Reddy even gave Pakistan’s Nida Dar an angry farewell.

Leg-spinner Asha Sobhana (1/24) went for a few boundaries before hitting opposing captain Fatima Sana with a massive leg-break after Richa Ghosh smartly caught the batter behind the wickets.

Renuka bowled a tight first over, and her inswinger sent Gull Feroza (0) through the gate.

Deepti, who performed admirably despite facing a weaker batting lineup, slowed down her deliveries and flighted a few.

Sidra Amin (8 off 11 balls) attempted to slog sweep one, but the ball deflected off her pads and rolled onto the stumps.

Pakistan only managed 29 for 2 in the powerplay, as India’s bowlers tightened their grip on the opposition batting.

Arundhati was luckier because Asha dropped a dolly when opener Muneeba Ali (17) had a ramp scoop available. Reddy, on the other hand, had Omaima Sohail in the same over, when the right-hander’s uppish drive was cleanly caught by Shafali Verma at mid-off.

The left-handed Muneeba was dismissed as she attempted to give Shreyanka the charge, and the off-spinner effectively altered the length and caused the ball to turn enough for Richa to stump her.

Pakistan hitters were unable to even push the ball in the gaps at the midway stage, with veteran Nida Dar’s 28 off.
