After asserting that he was an Olympic horse rider and coach, a former special constable was prohibited from practicing law enforcement.
According to Christopher Harper-Davies, he coached Singapore’s lone Olympic dressage rider in addition to competing for Team GB.
The officer started working in Cheltenham the following year after submitting an application to join Gloucestershire Police in October 2021.
At the misconduct hearing, it was also disclosed that he had informed his superiors that he had previously worked for Sussex Police as a special constable.

Harper-Davies’ lies were a betrayal of honesty and integrity, according to Stephen Morley, the case’s presenter, who called for an expedited misconduct hearing.
“During the interview, he revealed that his fear of competing was the reason he hadn’t participated,” Mr. Morley stated.

The former partner of Harper-Davies had briefly trained the Singapore Olympic rider, but the inquiry heard that he was not engaged.

According to Mr. Morley, Harper-Davies acknowledged lying about his prior policing experience and his ability to ride a horse during an interview with professional standards.

He declared, “He has been acting dishonestly and he is obviously telling lies.”

December 2023 saw Harper-Davies‘ resignation from the force.

He was not represented by counsel, hadn’t filed a formal response to the charges, and didn’t show up for the hearing.

He said he “deeply regrets” his acts and is “sorry for his behaviour” in a resignation letter.

According to Mr. Mathieson, all three of the accusations made against Mr. Harper-Davies were validated and amounted to egregious misconduct.

Because of his lies,

he was given more authority and duties. There was a major breach of integrity in those lies.If Harper-Davies had been a police officer, he would have been fired as a Special Constable.

“The police barred list will include him.”
It implies that the former special constable will never again be able to have any position with the police.
