Evanilson
Bournemouth’s record signing. Evanilson scored his first goal for the Cherries, who defeated Southampton 3-1 on Monday. The Brazilian international ignited a three-goal blitz from the home side in the first 39 minutes, with Dango Ouattara and Antoine Semenyo also scoring.
Taylor Harwood-Bellis scored for the Saints early in the second half, but they are still in the bottom three and have not won since their return to the Premier League. Bournemouth go over Manchester United into 11th place with their second win of the season.
Evanilson has enormous shoes to fill as the successor for Dominic Solanke, who moved to Tottenham for a club record amount last month.
The 40-million-pound striker did not get off to a good start, missing a penalty in Bournemouth’s most recent home game against Chelsea.
However, he erased those memories by latching onto Marcus Tavernier’s fast free kick on 17 minutes.
“It’s a goal we’ve been expecting from Evanilson,” said Bournemouth assistant manager Tommy Elphick, who was filling in for banned manager Andoni Iraola.
“He is quite bright and has such cute runs. We haven’t found him enough, so I’m happy for him.
Semenyo has so far filled Solanke’s void, with his ferocious drive finding the bottom corner for his third goal in six Premier League outings this season.
Southampton’s possession dominance yielded little points.
Russell Martin’s men are second from bottom, with only one point from their first six games.
There was no aggressiveness or boldness. On the pitch, they were scanning the area and acting defensively. I didn’t enjoy it one bit. “They showed fight in the second half, but it was too late.”
Last season, all three promoted teams were demoted from the Premier League for the first time since 1997/98.
The early data of this season also suggests that the gap between the Championship and the top division is becoming increasingly tough to bridge for teams on the rise.
Ipswich and Leicester have also failed to earn a win in their first six league matches, although they are at least outside the bottom three.
