Coach Jaspal Rana of Manu Bhaker praised Indian Olympic Association chief PT Usha on Wednesday, saying that she “fought” and offered him all the support that led to the young shooter’s historic double bronze medals at the Paris Games.

After independence, Manu became the first athlete from India to win two medals at the same Olympics, taking home bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol solo and mixed team competitions.

In an exclusive interview with PTI Video, Rana said, “She’s the one who fought and gave me all the support despite whatever problems we had.”

IOA authorities claimed that Usha circumvented several rules in order to accomplish tasks within the organization.

“PT Usha is attempting to take action, and everyone is after her. Why? Why do individuals become entrenched in a situation and refuse to move on?

Has she not been present for the past 20 years? Declare in the open what she did incorrectly. For just 1.5 years, that’s how long you want to pursue her. Give her a chance and assist her instead of putting her down.

Rana stressed the significance of adopting a systematic method to developing athletes, particularly in shooting, to ensure consistent performance.

Everyone is aware of the struggles Manu and I had both before and during the Olympics. The four-time gold medallist from the Asian Games and former world champion shooter remarked, “By God’s grace, we got two medals in pistol shooting and another in rifle.”

“We don’t need miracles to occur at every Olympics; we need a system. We require a method that will enable us to produce thirty to forty medal-delivering shooters. We are discussing the Olympics in 2036.

When asked if the system was responsible for the success, he responded, “Yes, the system is doing a lot, which is why we have more than 100 Olympic qualifiers.”

However, we must do more; we must exert that additional effort in order to win medals. The bouts are missing, something is wrong. You are aware of the type of conflicts that occur in the IOA. Rana stated that the NRAI has not yet responded, despite expectations that the renowned shooter would return to lead Indian shooting in a coaching capacity.

“I’m not sure. Question them. There’s been no reply. NRAI has not gotten in touch with me in any manner.

“I’m not trying to find anything. See you later. I’ve been contributing to the sport without anticipating anything in return.

“I would take it as an honour to work with 20-30 athletes, and if they win medals, it would be an honour,” he replied when asked if he would be interested in coaching the Indian shooting squad. Time will tell, but I’ll do whatever it takes if needed. In addition, he discussed India’s feasible candidacy for the Olympics in 2036.

Following the 1982 makeover of Delhi, the Asian Games brought with them all these large hotels. The Olympics will provide us with the next platform in a similar manner. We can refurbish the existing venue instead of building a new one if we have the infrastructure in place to do it all in one location.

Why don’t you include the athletes who narrowly missed winning medals? We are there if we can simply work together to tackle the little issues while allowing them to compete with open minds.

“We are on the verge of taking home gold medals. Check out Manu’s scores. Athletes should feel that the system is behind them and that they are supported. Let’s set up the framework; everything that is discussed about athletes must center on them rather than against them.
